The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Yennefer is named for a character, the sorceress from The Witcher, marked by violet eyes and black curls, carrying scars beneath a mask of composure. Ekaterina Siordia drew from that archetype for this 2020 creation: a woman who transformed herself deliberately, who made power a choice rather than an accident. The fragrance isn't a tribute to a fictional character. It's an interpretation of an energy, the cool composure, the calculated beauty, the green-fruity edge that cuts through expectation. The name is a signal. If you recognize it, this was made for you.
Four notes. That's the structure, unusually spare for a niche composition, where complexity often signals quality. But restraint is its own mastery. Lilac and violet form the powdery floral heart, each carrying a slight bitter edge that prevents sweetness. Gooseberry brings the unexpected tartness, green and fruity, cutting through the florals and keeping the composition from dissolving into pure powder. Musk anchors the base, creating intimacy through proximity rather than projection. Nothing wasted. Everything intentional.
The evolution
The opening is cool, slightly tart. Wet lilac with gooseberry's green bite cutting through the air. Violet arrives within minutes, softening the sharpness with its powdery, waxy quality that makes the florals feel almost physical. The heart phase lasts longer than expected, a warm, skin-like blend of floral and powdery that settles into something comfortable. The drydown shifts as the florals begin to fade and musk takes over, wrapping everything in a close, warm embrace that lingers for hours before eventually settling into a skin-close whisper.
Cultural impact
Yennefer has found its audience among those who appreciate powdery florals with an unexpected edge. The realistic lilac and the gooseberry tartness draw consistent praise. The drydown's powdery violet notes earn particular appreciation. Some find the quiet intensity captivating; others note it works best as a personal scent rather than one that announces your presence. Best for spring days and intimate evenings.
