The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Silk Vanilla is Ekaterina Siordia's argument for vanilla as serious material, not a confection, but a texture with weight and history. The name says silk; the composition says don't stop reading. Coconut extends the warmth without sweetening it further, while green mandarin and bitter orange arrive like an interruption you welcome. The brief was simple: what if vanilla never had to apologize?
The note structure here works because Siordia treats sweetness as a starting point, not a destination. Green mandarin and bitter orange cut through the vanilla-coconut heart at the opening, creating a tartness that keeps the composition from flattening. Cashmeran acts as a bridge, that skin-close, musky softness that makes the sweetness feel worn rather than applied. The leather and oud in the base aren't dramatic; they're the structure that prevents the whole thing from floating away. Champa flower adds a floral dimension that tempers the tropical coconut without competing with it, and tonka bean deepens the vanilla into something resinous and lasting.
The evolution
The opening arrives quick, green mandarin and bitter orange pulling focus with a tart brightness that's almost effervescent. Honeysuckle softens the citrus as it settles, bridging toward the heart. Then the vanilla and coconut arrive together, wrapped in cashmeran's velvety texture. Jasmine and rose bloom through the mid-phase, with the leather beginning to assert itself, quiet but present, like a line you feel rather than read. Champa flower adds an exotic floral note that prevents the coconut from reading too foody. The base unfolds: vanilla persists alongside cashmeran and musk, the coconut fading to a memory, labdanum giving depth, and that leather-oud combination holding the drydown like an anchor. The final impression is warm, slightly powdery, with the ghost of leather on skin.
Cultural impact
Independent perfume houses have found their place alongside established names, and Siordia Parfums participates in this broader conversation about what fragrance can do. Warm oriental compositions continue to captivate those drawn to richness and depth, and the brand channels this tradition through its own lens. Silk Vanilla exemplifies this approach, grounding its vanilla-coconut character in something that resists the predictable. The leather element provides necessary counterweight, preventing sweetness from overwhelming while contributing an unexpected dimension.
