The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Roohy Tehbak arrived in 2011 from Rasasi, a house that has spent years working in fragrance. By the time this composition launched, the brand had already established a catalog rich with resinous warmth and floral depth. This is a feminine composition that opens with bright citrus, where orange and mandarin bring a clean, sharp lift before the florals rush in. Lily threads through early, creamy and almost indolic, and gardenia adds a tropical creaminess that softens the citrus edge. As the florals settle, the heart shifts toward peach, sugary and fleshy, wrapped with black pepper for a slight bite. Then the resins take over, frankincense and labdanum pulling everything into something ambered and warm.
What makes this composition distinctive is the tension between white florals and frankincense. Lily and gardenia bring that creamy, indolic sweetness, but labdanum and frankincense push back with something dense and resinous, a counterweight that keeps the florals from floating off. Black pepper at the heart adds a clean snap that prevents the composition from drifting into pure softness. The base commits to patchouli, amber, and sandalwood, a classic Eastern foundation built around earthy, golden, and creamy woods. The proportions feel modern.
The evolution
The first twenty minutes belong to orange and mandarin, bright and slightly sharp, with lily threading through early like a veil. Gardenia joins and the whole opening turns creamier, almost tropical. By the thirty-minute mark the citrus is already retreating and peach arrives with a sugary, fleshy sweetness that softens everything. Around the one-hour point frankincense and labdanum take over. The composition gets warmer, smokier, heavier in the best way. Black pepper flickers underneath, giving the heart a slight bite that keeps it from collapsing into pure sweetness. The transition into the base is gradual. Patchouli anchors first, bringing that earthy, slightly damp quality, then amber wraps around it with a resinous glow. Sandalwood arrives last and stays longest, creamy and quiet, anchoring everything that came before.
Cultural impact
Roohy Tehbak carries enough Eastern resin and warmth to feel grounded, but the white florals and peach give it a softness that broadens its reach. Wearers describe it as a confident, easy-to-live-with composition, the kind of fragrance that fits a fall evening without trying too hard. It works well for someone who wants the depth of resinous perfumery without committing to oud or heavier attar territory. In fragrance communities it often comes up beside YSL Belle d'Opium in conversations, sharing that smoky-sweet territory. The peach and white florals make it approachable, while the frankincense and labdanum keep it from ever feeling simple.
