The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Ramón Monegal has always been fascinated by the daring spirit of the Spanish bullfighter, that precise balance of poise and audacity. In 2025, he set out to bottle this energy, drawing on his family's century-old Myrurgia legacy through his Barcelona workshop. He chose frank incense for its ceremonial resonance, a natural partner to the ritualistic tradition of the bullring, while rosewood brought warm exoticism and cumin added grounding earthiness to the opening. The composition captures the discipline and boldness required in the arena, translating plaza showdown intensity into sensory form.
He selected each ingredient thoughtfully, ensuring every material serves the narrative. Frank incense anchors the composition with smoke and sanctity. Rosewood brings warmth and spicy complexity. Cumin adds earthiness that grounds the opening trio. Magnolia, rose and jasmine form the heart of the fragrance, their elegant floral character balancing the aromatic intensity above. Coconut, musk and sandalwood complete the arc and provide drydown cohesion, their warmth creating a finish that feels intentional and complete.
The evolution
The opening hits with aromatic conviction: frank incense smoke, rosewood spice and cumin earth. These notes don't apologize for their intensity and shouldn't be underestimated. As time passes, the heart reveals what comes after the first act. Magnolia blooms with creamy, almost tropical petals that soften the opening's boldness, while rose and jasmine interweave to create a rich floral heart. The transition feels earned rather than sudden. The drydown settles into coconut sweetness, clean musk and creamy sandalwood, creating an Intimate warmth that lingers close to skin for hours. Rosewood fades into musky warmth. Coconut develops its sweet, tropical creaminess while sandalwood deepens the base with its characteristic milky wood. This progression from ceremonial intensity through lush florals to Intimate warmth mirrors the arc of a bullfight itself, tension building to climax before settling into reflection.
Cultural impact
Since its 2025 debut, Matador has sparked conversation among niche enthusiasts for its unapologetic blend of incense and coconut, a pairing that divides opinion but consistently earns strong sillage scores. Wearers describe it as the scent of a confident stride through a sun‑lit plaza, positioning it as a modern emblem of Spanish boldness.
