The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Barcelona-based niche house Ramon Monegal, founded in 2009 by fourth-generation perfumer Ramon Monegal Maso, draws on generations of expertise in fragrance creation. Flamenco honors the bold Spanish art form of the same name, channeling its spirit of passion and precision into a composition that balances fruit, florals, and wood with deliberate intention.
Ramon Monegal Maso constructs Flamenco with a clear philosophy: bold opening notes should command attention before yielding gracefully to a florally complex heart, finally settling into a grounded, woody base. The pairing of raspberry with orris root creates an opening that is both fruity and powdery, preventing sweetness from overwhelming. Red rose and jasmine together form a classic floral heart, while rosewood bridges the transition to the woody drydown. This structure ensures the fragrance moves through distinct phases rather than remaining static.
The evolution
The fragrance begins with raspberry, tart and immediate, quickly joined by the earthy, powdery elegance of orris root and the soft floral whisper of violet. As the top notes soften, red rose emerges as the protagonist, accompanied by the warm spice of rosewood and the creamy depth of jasmine. The journey concludes with a drydown where musk provides intimacy, amberwood offers warmth, and cedarwood leaves a lasting, dry woody trail.
Cultural impact
Flamenco sits at the intersection of cultural reference and niche perfumery. Named for the art form that defines Andalusian identity, the fragrance executes that inspiration through a fruity-floral structure with woody base. The balance feels modern, alert, the kind of composition that speaks to someone looking for presence without pretense. Wearers gravitate toward it for that same quality the art form holds: something bold but refined, assertive without overwhelming. Sillage carries well through an evening, and longevity holds through real wear rather than ideal conditions.
