The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Ramón Monegal Maso, the fourth-generation heir to the Myrurgia house founded in Barcelona in 1916, spent decades as a freelance perfumer before launching his own brand in 2009. All creations still originate from his Barcelona studio, where he maintains complete control over every formula. Siesta represents his interpretation of the Mediterranean practice of deliberate rest, the afternoon pause where schedules dissolve and presence remains. The fragrance bottles that specific quality of being off-duty without regret, a concept deeply rooted in Spanish culture.
The note selection reflects the duality of rest and wakefulness. Lemon and cedarwood evoke the clarity of afternoon light, while honey hints at the sweetness of letting go. Iris and vetiver represent the transition into rest, and the musk-tonka-vanilla base captures the warmth of skin after sleep. Each note serves a purpose in constructing that moment of deliberate pause.
The evolution
The opening sets a bright, citrussy tone with lemon immediately joined by cedarwood and a touch of honey. As the fragrance develops, iris emerges as the heart, its powdery elegance softened by vetiver's earthy depth and jasmine's subtle floral warmth. The drydown shifts toward intimacy, with musk wrapping the skin while tonka bean and vanilla create a warm, slightly sweet trail. The arc moves from alertness to relaxation, mirroring the actual experience of a siesta itself.
Cultural impact
Siesta captures something most modern fragrances miss, the idea of deliberate, unapologetic rest as a Mediterranean pleasure. The word siesta already carries that weight. Used as a fragrance name, it does not need explaining to anyone who has ever loved the idea of an afternoon where nothing is on the schedule and nothing needs to be.
