The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Jacques Flori selected a single variety of Ylang-ylang cultivated on Nosy Be, an island in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Madagascar, where specific soil conditions and coastal humidity produce a flower with a distinctive rich, almost honeyed character that differs markedly from Ylang-ylang sourced elsewhere. Perris Monte Carlo, a Monégasque house built on the conviction that one ingredient can tell a complete story at full concentration, gave Flori the mandate to work without compromise, producing an Eau de Parfum concentration in the house tradition of extrait-level intensity. The island origin is not incidental; it is the whole point of the composition, and every decision in the formula serves to foreground the Nosy Be terroir above all else.
Perris Monte Carlo operates from a simple but radical premise: that a single raw material, pushed to its fullest expression, constitutes a complete fragrance. Ylang Ylang Nosy Be is the embodiment of this philosophy. The opening of cardamom, lemon, and mint is not a distraction but a frame, designed to contextualize the floral heart and make it more legible against the skin. The drydown of amber, musk, vanilla, and woody notes serves the same function at the end of the wear, preserving the Ylang-ylang's warmth as the top notes fade. Each layer exists in service of the island's flower, and the result is a fragrance that asks you to slow down and attend to what a single terroir can yield.
The evolution
The fragrance moves from an aromatic, spice-bright opening through a lush tropical floral heart and arrives at a warm, resinous drydown, creating an arc that mirrors the movement from the cool sea air of Nosy Be to the warm, dense interior of its flower markets. Cardamom and mint open the story with an immediate sense of place, like stepping onto the island at dawn. Lemon lifts the composition with a clean, citrus brightness that keeps the spices from feeling heavy. The heart then transitions into the island's most famous export: Ylang-ylang, amplified by jasmine and a quiet rose note that rounds the floral excess into something wearable and genuinely moving. The drydown of amber, musk, vanilla, and woody notes closes the narrative as a warm memory, lingering on skin like the last traces of a bloom gathered at sunset.
Cultural impact
Perris Monte Carlo's approach has earned a devoted following among niche collectors who prioritize ingredient integrity over marketing narratives. The Black Collection positions the house as a space for single-note intensity, offering concentrated aromatic experiences that stand apart from blended-concept approaches common in perfumery. Enthusiasts consistently praise its longevity for an extrait concentration, with the community appreciating a scent that remains present throughout wear.
