The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Amethyst belongs to Osmanli Oud's Değerli Taşlar collection, a series of compositions named for gemstones rather than the rulers or cities that dominate much of the house's broader catalogue. The gemstone conceit gives each release a visual anchor, a colour and a mineral metaphor to organise the scent around, and Amethyst leans into that idea with a palette of cool fruit, dusty florals and creamy woods. The juice itself reads as a deliberate study of contrast. The opening is sharp, almost confectionery in its brightness, with blackcurrant, grapefruit and raspberry stacked on top of one another, while the base pulls everything downward into sandalwood, ambergris and musk.
What's interesting is the tension between the bright fruit opening and the weight underneath. Blackcurrant, grapefruit and raspberry give the first impression a juicy, almost candied read, like a handful of berries dropped into chilled citrus. Then patchouli grounds the heart and rose adds a powdery bridge between that fruit burst and the warmer notes waiting below. The base is where the composition finds its real voice. Ambergris, musk and sandalwood anchor everything in something denser and more skin-like, folding the brighter top notes into a longer-lasting warmth.
The evolution
The opening hits fast and sharp. Blackcurrant leads with a tart, almost jammy sweetness, grapefruit cuts through with bitter citrus pith, and raspberry rounds it into something that smells edible for the opening stretch. The neroli and rose arrive almost immediately, softening the fruit into something more powdery, more grown. Patchouli sits underneath, not loud but present, adding a dusty earthiness that keeps the florals from going soapy. As the composition settles, the fruit gradually recedes and what remains is rose, patchouli and the beginning of the sandalwood warming up, the texture turning from juicy to creamy. Eventually the ambergris arrives, and that's the shift. The scent stops being a bright floral and starts being something more ambiguous, more skin-like, the kind of register that feels less composed and more lived-in.
Cultural impact
Amethyst sits in Osmanli Oud's Değerli Taşlar (Gemstones) collection, and that framing gives it a distinctive place within the line. The fruity-floral structure reads as something more approachable than the heavier profiles the house is known for, offering a softer entry point into the catalogue. Blackcurrant, grapefruit and raspberry give the opening a bright, almost confectionery lift, while patchouli, rose, sandalwood, ambergris and musk anchor the composition in something warmer and more familiar. The interplay of juicy fruit and creamy wood creates a versatile character that works across seasons and settings.
