The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Fa is Oscar London's 2025 addition to their Nota Paris Collection. The name references the fourth degree of the solfeggio scale, and the structure mirrors that intentionality. Citrus and herbs open the composition, white florals and aldehydes form the body, and clean white musk and vetiver provide the sustained note underneath. Each layer builds on the last, creating a fragrance that feels considered and complete rather than accidental. Restraint becomes the signature, confidence worn quietly rather than announced.
The combination of fennel and clary sage in the heart is unusual, two aromatic herbs that could tip into medicinal territory if handled poorly. Here, violet's powdery sweetness and aldehydes' sparkling lift keep everything in balance. Neither note dominates. They converse. At the base, white musk pairs with matcha, grounded by vetiver's earthiness and patchouli's quiet depth. The drydown belongs to someone who doesn't need to prove anything.
The evolution
The first minutes are all citrus. Grapefruit leads with a clean bitterness, mandarin follows with round sweetness, bergamot softening both. The verbena adds a lemony-herbal edge that keeps the opening from feeling like a cleaning product. As the citrus recedes, white rose and violet arrive, powdery and clean. The clary sage and fennel show up as an aromatic backbone, almost savory. Aldehydes add brightness, like light through a window. The florals soften and white musk takes over, wrapping close to skin. Vetiver grounds everything. Patchouli whispers underneath. Ambergris and matcha linger as the composition settles, each adding their quiet weight to the finish. On fabric, a ghost of vetiver and white musk remains.
Cultural impact
Fa is Oscar London's quiet statement, sophisticated without performing sophistication. The citrus-aromatic structure with powdery aldehydes creates a comfortable middle ground that holds interest. The matcha drydown is the tell, a clean finish that suits the house's restrained aesthetic. That specificity gives Fa its distinction. The composition rewards attention without demanding it.
