The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Oscar London creates unisex fragrances inspired by travel, geography, and now musical structure. The Nota Collection takes its name from the solfège syllables: Do, Re, Mi, Fa. Each fragrance carries a note, a frequency, a concept tied to sound and return. Re is the second movement in this four-part series, a position that deliberately invokes repetition itself. Oscar London works with natural extracts alongside high-quality synthetics, seeking emotional resonance in each composition rather than simple ingredient lists. The concept of return interests the house: returning to a place, a person, a moment worth coming back to. The fragrance builds on peach and amber as its founding images, fruits of warmth and persistence.
The choice of peach and jasmine reflects Oscar London's philosophy of pairing brightness with warmth. Peach opens because it is a fruit of persistence, returning year after year, embodying the return that names the fragrance. Jasmine enters the heart because it is floral without being fragile, its indolic character providing sensuality that balances the fruity sweetness of the opening. The drydown relies on immortelle because it offers complexity that neither sandalwood nor patchouli alone could provide, a honeyed herbal quality that rewards time on skin. The note structure, from fruity-citrus through lush floral to warm oriental base, follows a narrative arc designed to reward patience.
The evolution
The scent opens with peach, lemon, and ginger, creating a fruity-citrus impression that feels sun-drenched and energetic. Peach establishes sweetness and warmth from the first moment, while lemon lifts and brightens, preventing the opening from becoming too heavy. Ginger introduces a clean, faintly peppery quality that separates the opening from typical sweet fruity fragrances, adding intentionality and sharpness. As the top notes fade, the heart emerges: jasmine arrives with its characteristic indolic warmth, creamy and sensual, while orange contributes honeyed brightness that harmonizes with the peach still lingering from the opening. Osmanthus provides the crucial apricot-like facet that bridges the fruity opening and the floral heart, creating continuity across the phases. The drydown arrives with immortelle, sandalwood, and patchouli. Immortelle adds honeyed complexity, a slightly herbal quality that distinguishes the base from simpler oriental compositions. Sandalwood contributes creamy warmth, softening the overall impression.
Cultural impact
Re has quickly become a cultural touchstone among niche fragrance enthusiasts, symbolising a shift toward unisex amber‑fruity compositions that celebrate both brightness and depth. Its launch sparked online discussions about the resurgence of natural extracts, and the perfume has been featured in several editorial round‑ups that highlight modern reinterpretations of classic warm accords. Collectors cite its balanced opening and lingering drydown as reasons it often appears in curated scent‑swap events, reinforcing its role as a conversation starter in fragrance‑focused communities.
