The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Silverlake draws its name from the serene, high‑altitude lakes that lace the Alpine landscape, a nod to Bentley’s 2020 ambition to capture that crisp, open air in a bottle. Perfumer Ane Ayo of DSM‑Firmenich began with Lemon and Mint to echo the lake's fresh surface as morning light breaks across it. From there, the composition deepens with Violet Leaf, Lavender and Pink Pepper, building a heart that feels simultaneously natural and crafted, like the leatherwork inside a Bentley cockpit. The choice of White Musk and Amberwood for the drydown mirrors the mineral stillness of a lakeside shore as dusk settles, grounding the fragrance in a physical place rather than an abstract concept.
The note selection reflects a philosophy of controlled freshness, where brightness is balanced by restraint rather than amplified into noise. Lemon provides the spark, but Mint keeps it cool and precise. Violet Leaf adds an unusual green dimension that sets Silverlake apart from more straightforward aquatic fragrances, while Lavender ensures the heart has enough warmth to remain inviting in cooler air. White Musk and Amberwood were chosen for the drydown because they read as clean without being clinical, a subtle nod to the brand's premium materials without overwhelming the composition with heavy woods or resins.
The evolution
Silverlake begins with an immediate, arresting Lemon and Mint combination that feels like cold metal touched by warm fingertips. There is no gradual warm-up here; the opening is vivid and confident, designed to announce itself clearly in the first spray. As the citrus and mint recede, Violet Leaf takes centre stage, introducing a green, slightly dewy quality that recalls the sensation of walking through wet Alpine grass. Lavender follows, softening the edges and adding a familiar, reassuring aromatic warmth that bridges the gap to the base. Pink Pepper, used sparingly, lends a faint prickly warmth that prevents the heart from feeling flat. The drydown is the quietest chapter: White Musk and Amberwood create a skin-close warmth that lingers for hours without announcing itself. The evolution is disciplined and linear, each phase yielding cleanly to the next.
Cultural impact
Since its 2020 debut, Silverlake has been noted for its crisp, aquatic‑aromatic profile that often draws comparisons to Mediterranean‑style colognes like Acqua di Giò Essenza. Wearers praise its ability to feel both sporty and refined, making it a go‑to for modern professionals who appreciate a fragrance that bridges high‑performance engineering with fresh, outdoor vigor.
