The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Eclat Homme Sport arrived in 2015 from Oriflame, a beauty company with a fragrance line shaped around compositions meant for daily rotation rather than occasion-only wear. Vincent Schaller composed the scent, building a fresh-aquatic-green foundation that pushes past the usual clean-soapy formula. The opening reads cool and aqueous, with a brisk green lift that suggests cut stems and cool metal before settling into something warmer. What gives the composition its character is the unusual herbal density at the heart, where green notes carry genuine weight rather than skimming the surface. On skin, the top accord lingers longer than expected, giving way to a slower mid-phase where the herbal and slightly bitter threads take over.
The heart of Eclat Homme Sport is where the composition earns its particular character. Caraway opens with a slightly bitter, almost anise-tinged warmth that immediately signals this is not a standard sport release. Elemi resin layers in next, bringing a lemony, peppery brightness that works like a bridge between the cool top and the warmer base notes still to come. The interplay matters: the elemi's citrus-spice character lifts the caraway's darker, seed-like quality, preventing either note from dominating the drydown.
The evolution
The first 15 minutes belong to bergamot and mandarin, cold and bright, with pink pepper prickling underneath like static charge. The water-fresh quality hits fast and immediate, the way morning air smells after a storm. Around the 30-minute mark, the caraway and oregano arrive and shift the whole composition sideways. The freshness stays, but now there's something green and herbal pressing through it, almost like crushed herbs under a citrus tree. The elemi bridges the two halves, its peppery-lemon quality keeping the opening's energy alive while the warmer base assembles underneath. By hour two, cedar and suede take over the architecture. The scent pulls closer to skin, losing its aquatic shimmer and gaining a soft, dry warmth. Patchouli grounds the bottom without turning earthy, while tonka bean adds a quiet sweetness that rounds the edges. The drydown at hour four to five reads as clean cedar skin with a suede softness, a trace of warmth that lingers on fabric.
Cultural impact
Launched in 2015, Eclat Homme Sport arrived as part of Oriflame's effort to deliver a credible masculine fragrance option at an accessible price point within a category crowded with sport-labeled releases. The composition's oregano-caraway heart gives it a distinguishing edge, offering wearers something more textural than the standard citrus-and-musk formulas that define much of the men's sport tier. Within Oriflame's broader portfolio, it represents a masculine entry that takes the category's conventions and pushes past them, introducing an herbal density that rewards closer attention.
