The beginning
The name says everything: La Foret Russe means The Russian Forest, and the fragrance earns that title. Nikolay Eremin built this composition around the Siberian taiga, drawing on the deep well of Russian literary and cultural imagination. Forests in Russian fairy tales are not gentle places. They are vast, mysterious, and slightly threatening, home to ancient spirits and forces that don't ask permission. Eremin translated that into scent: not a polite woodland fragrance but something with real weight and darkness. The 2015 launch placed it among the first four releases from Nimere, and it immediately signaled that this house would not be interested in comfortable compromises.
What makes this composition unusual is its willingness to move through discomfort. The gurjan balsam in the base carries an almost camphorated, medicinal sharpness that most perfumers smooth away. Here it remains, threading through the coniferous heart and giving the fragrance its distinctive slightly unsettling quality.
