The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Day arrived in November 2018 as the second fragrance in Nicole Scherzinger's collection, following her 2017 debut Chosen. Released alongside Night, the two were introduced together as a complementary pair, giving the collection breadth from the start rather than building outward one scent at a time. The opening is a bright, sunlit rush of fruit: bergamot and mandarin lift the first spray with citrus brightness, blackcurrant adds a sweet-tart snap, and peach nectar rounds the edges until the whole thing feels almost edible, like ripe fruit held up to daylight. As the hours pass, that fruit never fully disappears. It softens, ripens, and sinks into the warmer layers below, the way a sunny afternoon gradually gives way to a warm evening.
What makes Day interesting structurally is how it uses fruit and florals as a single voice rather than two competing ones. Blackcurrant and peach nectar open with genuine sweetness, but the rose, jasmine, and freesia in the heart pull the composition into something creamier rather than airier. The patchouli note is the quiet hinge, keeping the florals from dissolving into simple sugar. Most fruity florals collapse into jam or soap, but Day holds its shape because the base is doing structural work underneath, tonka, vanilla, and amber giving the fruits a place to rest instead of evaporating.
The evolution
The first moments on skin are almost entirely fruit: bergamot, mandarin, and blackcurrant burst forward with that sweet-tart snap of berries still cold from the fridge. Peach nectar rounds the edges, making the opening feel edible rather than sharp. The citrus notes sparkle briefly before the blackcurrant deepens the sweetness into something richer, almost like a fruit syrup just beginning to warm. As the composition opens up, the florals start to surface. Rose and jasmine arrive without ever becoming indolic or heavy. Freesia adds a green pearlescence, lifting the bouquet so it breathes, and the patchouli grounds the heart so it doesn't float away into something powdery and forgettable. The transition into the base is gradual rather than dramatic. Vanilla and tonka begin warming beneath the remaining florals, and the musk starts pulling everything closer to skin.
Cultural impact
Day arrived in late 2018 alongside Night, and the pairing gave Nicole Scherzinger's fragrance debut a sense of completeness right out of the gate. With two scents introduced together rather than one, the collection immediately felt like more than a single celebrity release. Day carries the brighter, sunnier energy of the two, built on a fruity-floral structure that reads as approachable and broadly appealing. Bergamot, mandarin, blackcurrant, and peach lead the way, followed by a heart of rose, jasmine, freesia, and patchouli, with vanilla, tonka, musk, and woods grounding the drydown.
