The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Avelã e Cassis sits inside Natura's Tododia collection, the Brazilian house's everyday body-care line. The composition takes its name from its two leads: avelã, hazelnut, and cassis, blackcurrant. These are ingredients that don't typically share a bottle. One is roasted, warm, indulgent. The other is sharp, fruity, a little tense. Pulling both into a single composition brings together the nut bowl on the counter and the bowl of fruit beside it, a breakfast-and-after-dinner tension that runs through every phase of the wear.
What makes the structure work is the way the supporting cast keeps the extremes from tipping. Bergamot and lemon cut the sweetness at the top before hazelnut settles in. Lily of the valley and peony prevent the fruit from going jammy, lending a green, almost watery freshness at the heart. Sandalwood and musk at the base give the vanilla something solid to rest on, stopping it from dissolving into pure sugar. The result reads more like a pastry shop on a cool morning than like a typical gourmand.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes are the brightest. Bergamot and lemon do their usual work, citrus that smells like it's been squeezed five minutes ago, and beneath them, the blackcurrant is already pushing up through the surface, tart and just slightly jammy in its fruitiness. The hazelnut doesn't appear immediately. It waits. Then, somewhere around the forty-minute mark, the nut shows up and softens the whole opening into something rounder, less sharp. The shift is noticeable: the brightness that defined the first act begins to dim as the hazelnut settles in, lending a creamy, almost toasted quality that pulls the cassis back from its most acidic register. By the second hour, peony and lily of the valley have taken over the heart. The florals here are not indolic or honeyed.
Cultural impact
Avelã e Cassis belongs to Natura's Tododia line, a Brazilian body-care collection known for pairing scented body lotions, mists, and creams so that the wearer can build a single scent from head to toe. The composition itself is built around an unusual pairing: hazelnut and blackcurrant, two ingredients that come from different ends of the food spectrum and rarely appear together in fragrance. The hazelnut brings a roasted, creamy warmth. The blackcurrant brings a sharp, fruity acidity. Together they create a contrast that defines the composition. The hazelnut softens the cassis's sharpness.
