The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The inspiration is literal. House of Ellixirz is named after an actual cocktail bar, and Georgiana Ștefănoaei translated its atmosphere directly into scent. Dark leather chairs. Cigar smoke that clings. Sticky caramelized sugar on a glass. Red and green in the lighting. The vibrancy of a room that knows how to have a good time. The perfumer bottled all of it, so you can wear it out.
The structure is what makes it interesting. Lemon and petitgrain open a leather-tobacco fragrance, which is backwards from convention. The citrus isn't decoration. It's the lit match struck before the cigar gets involved. Then cassia brings its dry cinnamon spice, rose absolute brings warmth that prevents the smoke from going austere, and the base layers smoke, leather, caramel, birch tar, nagarmotha, and vanilla into something that genuinely earns the word elixir. The cocktail reference isn't just marketing copy. The composition is that specific.
The evolution
The opening announces itself immediately. Lemon and petitgrain arrive crisp and bright, the petitgrain adding a layer of complexity that cuts through what comes next. For the initial phase of wear, the smoke builds underneath, not competing with the citrus but waiting in the wings. Then the hand-off. Rose absolute and cassia take over as the primary sensation, the rose bringing a warm, honeyed sweetness that makes the smoke feel less harsh and more atmospheric. The drydown is where the name becomes undeniable. Caramel and leather arrive together, sweet and dark. Birch tar lends a sharp, smoky edge that prevents the gourmand notes from going flat. Tobacco and nagarmotha add depth and earth. Vanilla emerges as the scent settles, lingering throughout the later stages of wear.
Cultural impact
In the world of natural perfumery, MATCA brings a distinctive perspective through its commitment to botanical authenticity and restraint. House of Ellixirz represents the house's boldest expression, balancing smoke and leather with sweet undertones in a way that feels intentional and controlled. The fragrance appeals to those seeking a composition that asserts itself rather than adapts, offering a substantial presence in the indie fragrance space that feels both grounded and distinctive. It stands apart from more delicate offerings, bringing confidence and depth to those who wear it.
