Why it exists.
The beginning
Kashey Bezsmertny draws from the most forbidding figure in Russian folklore. Kashchei the Immortal, skeletal, ageless, keeps his death hidden in a needle inside an egg inside a duck inside a hare buried under an oak on an island no one can find. He is not a villain in the simple sense. He is the obstacle that cannot be killed, the guardian of thresholds, the thing that watches from the deep end of the woods. The figure arrived in 2025 through perfumer Lyubov Kovalenko, who translated the character into stone and coal rather than shadow and smoke. Kovalenko's approach treats the myth as material substance: each accord behaves like a geological stratum, layered and compressed, giving the composition a mineral weight that anchors it firmly to the earth.
The opening pairs coal with mineral and aquatic notes, a choice that reads as wet rock and subterranean air, moisture clinging to stone in a closed chamber. Immortelle, the so-called everlasting flower, threads the heart, connecting the floral tradition of European perfumery to the eternal-life thread of the myth itself. The immortelle's maple-curry warmth sits in direct contrast to the cold minerality above it, creating a tension that pulls the composition in two directions at once.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are the coldest the scent gets. Coal and mineral notes arrive together, almost industrial, like standing in an unheated cellar where the walls sweat. The aquatic accord keeps everything damp, pressing the mineral against skin rather than letting it evaporate. Thyme cuts through around the 20-minute mark, herbal and slightly sharp, pulling immortelle's curry-like warmth forward. That immortelle-to-coffee hand-off happens around the one-hour mark, and it feels like a door opening somewhere underground. Coffee arrives without sweetness, almost acrid, and the leather underneath starts to grain, rough and animal. By hour three the composition has warmed considerably, amber and resins lifting the base into something that reads as smoldering rather than cold.
Cultural impact
Kashey Bezsmertny lands as one of Ladanika's most austere compositions, eschewing the sweeter oriental territory typical of the brand's earlier Garnet Bracelet or Kalinka-Malinka releases for a colder, more geological register. It appeals to wearers who want fragrance to suggest a specific place rather than a mood, and who find the typical gourmand or incense vocabulary of niche orientals too easy. The immortelle-coffee pairing is unusual enough to stand apart from the leather-oud crowd without becoming a novelty.
