Why it exists.
The beginning
Evening Signature arrived in 2022 from Hayari Parfums, a French house founded by Nabil Hayari. The composition carries a clear conceptual anchor: the textures of evening couture. Think fabrics, linens, the drape of a garment meant for night rather than noon. Serge de Oliveira and Robertet are credited on the project, and the release followed a daytime counterpart already in Hayari's lineup. The scent was composed with deliberate attention to how cloth falls under low light, how linens feel at the shoulder, how a collar sits against the neck after sunset. There is a studied calm to the brief, an attention to materials over statement.
The unusual material here is wheat absolute, an aromatic ingredient that brings a green, faintly sweet quality carrying the texture of raw linen or starched cotton. It smells cool and clean on first impression, but there's an underlying warmth that suggests skin beneath the cloth. Hayari built the composition around this cereal accord, framing it as the equivalent of a couturier's fabric: the heart of the entire garment. Geranium circles the wheat with a herbaceous softness, while rose adds quiet lift above it.
The evolution
The opening is bright and almost disorienting after a moment. Bergamot slices through with elemi's peppery resin behind it, and freesia adds a cool floral edge that registers as crisp rather than soft. Thirty to forty minutes in, the wheat arrives with its green, slightly sweet weight, pulling rose and geranium into something denser, more textured. The tobacco starts threading through around the two-hour mark, and from there the composition settles into a steady amber-tonka-myrrh base. On fabric the next morning, it's mostly tonka and moss, soft, close, still wearing its evening clothes. The transition from the bright, resinous top into that grounded, skin-close drydown happens gradually, and each stage feels considered rather than accidental.
Cultural impact
Wearers describe Evening Signature as the scent of someone already at the table when you arrive, settled, composed. It's a wheat-and-tobacco composition, but the description only scratches the surface of what it actually does on skin. The wheat absolute lends it a texture that reads closer to cloth than to any conventional floral or gourmand category, giving the whole fragrance a tactile, almost woven quality. The tobacco grounds it without tipping into sweetness, and the way these materials interact through the drydown creates something that feels quietly considered.
