The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Wanted by Night arrived in 2018 as the evening counterpart to Azzaro's 2016 Wanted, shifting from daytime boldness into something designed for after-dark glamour. Perfumer Quentin Bisch built this eau de parfum as an homage to the hedonistic energy of Loris Azzaro's 1970s Paris, when nightlife was theatrical and scent was part of the costume. The choice of cumin, frankincense, and tobacco reflects that era's appetite for exotic, sensory experiences. Bisch constructed the fragrance to project strongly in crowded spaces, understanding that evening wear demands presence without shouting.
The note selection reflects a philosophy of sensory memorability. Cinnamon and mandarin orange create immediate recognition. Cumin and frankincense provide distinctiveness that prevents confusion with mainstream options. Cedarwood, tobacco, and cypress ensure the fragrance remains on skin long after the event ends. Bisch understood that evening fragrances must work harder to assert themselves against the accumulated scents of a night out, which is why the projection is assertive and the longevity is exceptional. The result is a fragrance built for being remembered.
The evolution
The opening with cinnamon and mandarin orange sets an immediate tone of confident warmth, the citrus providing a fleeting brightness before the composition deepens. Cumin emerges as the heart develops, bringing an earthy assertiveness that distinguishes this from safer evening fragrances. Cedarwood structures the middle phase, while frankincense adds an aromatic smoke that evokes incense in a late-night space. The drydown is where Wanted by Night truly earns its name. Cedarwood persists, tobacco amplifies, and cypress adds a green-woody lift that prevents the base from becoming heavy. This progression mirrors the arc of an evening: arrival energy, peak conversation, and the lingering impression as you leave.
Cultural impact
The Wanted collection has established a significant presence in the mass-market fragrance segment, recognized for its distinctive bottle shape and bold character. Wanted by Night represents the line's evening-oriented expression, offering a more intense interpretation of the core fragrance. The scent occupies a particular position in the market: accessible enough for regular wear but distinctive enough to warrant conversation. It delivers a confident, warm presence that works well in social settings, combining spicy opening notes with a rich, woody drydown.
