The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Cuir Marrakchi arrives from HARB'S built around a simple but stubborn idea: what happens when you start a leather composition with fruit instead of smoke. The release pulls a deliberately unexpected set of materials into focus, layering peach and citrus over birch tar and cedar. It's part of the Les Eternels Collection, a series that asks compositions to hold their shape long after the first wearing. The name points to Marrakech, the Moroccan city where the craft of working leather by hand runs deep, and the scent takes that lineage seriously. There's a patience in how the materials are arranged, an insistence that structure matters as much as the surface gesture. The peach and citrus aren't there for novelty; they set up a conversation that the wood and tar finish on their own terms.
Most leather compositions open with smoke or something adjacent to it, a darkness that signals the genre before the first note lands. Cuir Marrakchi takes a different approach: fruit first, structure later. Carrot and peach give the top a fleshy, almost edible quality that reads as warmth rather than sweetness, a gesture toward skin rather than the usual cologne sharpness. Then birch tar arrives, and it doesn't announce itself. It anchors.
The evolution
The first fifteen minutes are almost disorienting. Bergamot and lemon hit bright, but the peach underneath pulls everything toward something warmer, almost edible. Carrot adds that earthy, root-vegetable sweetness that grounds the opening without tipping into sugar. By the thirty-minute mark, the citrus has stepped back and the wood spine takes over. Birch tar does most of the heavy lifting, smoky but not acrid, dense without becoming oppressive. Jasmine and rose flicker through but never settle into anything traditionally floral; they pass through like light through a window, present and then gone. Pink pepper and ginger keep the warmth prickling, a low current of heat running beneath the surface. The drydown is where this composition earns its name.
Cultural impact
Cuir Marrakchi entered the conversation as part of HARB'S Les Eternels Collection, and the composition itself marks a clear departure from how leather fragrances have typically been structured. By anchoring birch tar against a peach-led opening instead of leading with smoke or heavy saffron, the release reframes what a leather scent can offer in its first minutes. Carrot and cypress articulate the suede facet with a kind of vegetable warmth that doesn't rely on the usual industrial shortcuts.
