The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Future Society built Solar Canopy from the extinct Hawaiian Hibiscadelphus wilderianus, a flower that hasn't existed in modern gardens since the 20th century. Using genetic sequencing and synthetic biology, they translated DNA from preserved specimens into aromatic compounds that never reached contemporary noses. Jerome Epinette then shaped these reconstructed molecules into something wearable: a bright, fruity-floral that honors the flower's original character while making it accessible for the first time. The result is a fragrance that feels both impossible and immediate, science and sensation in equal measure.
The combination of lychee and Turkish rose is unusual, typically, rose plays a supporting role in fruity florals, but here it holds equal weight. The pink pepper and red currant in the opening create a sparkling, almost effervescent quality that lifts the sweetness without cutting it. Pistachio and sugar in the base add a gourmand element that keeps the drydown warm and lasting. It's a composition that balances innovation with wearability, making the extinct feel alive.
The evolution
The opening hits bright and sparkling, pink pepper and red currant create an immediate effervescence that feels like sunlight through glass. Within minutes, lychee and Turkish rose take over, the rose not playing backup but standing firmly alongside the fruit. The heart holds for about two hours, creamy pistachio threading through the florals, keeping everything grounded. By hour three, the base notes arrive: sugar and vetiver settling into a warm, slightly woody drydown that stays close to the skin. Six to eight hours total, with moderate sillage that doesn't announce itself but lingers in the space you've left.
Cultural impact
Solar Canopy has quickly become a signature scent for those who appreciate innovative fragrances with a story. The combination of extinct plant DNA and wearable composition has attracted attention from both fragrance enthusiasts and those new to niche scents. Its balance of fruity freshness and sophisticated florals makes it versatile for everyday wear, while the scientific backstory adds an intellectual layer that sparks conversation.
