The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Jordi Fernández designed No 10 in 2016 as the tenth addition to Eutopie's numbered collection. The fragrance draws on frankincense, myrrh, and cypriol, materials that carry deep resonance in the world of perfumery. These ingredients meet under a unified composition, each contributing its own character to the whole. The number ten marks this as part of an ongoing series, each entry a distinct statement within the house's broader vision. No 10 is crafted for those who seek a fragrance of substance, something that rewards attention and unfolds with quiet confidence rather than loud declaration. It asks nothing of the wearer except the willingness to engage with a scent that speaks in measured, deliberate tones.
What makes No 10 structurally interesting is the way it layers warm spices against a smoky, resinous foundation without ever tipping into sweetness. The saffron and nutmeg in the opening are medicinal rather than gourmand, they smell like the spice itself, not like sugar trying to approximate it. The cypriol oil (also called nagarmotha) provides an earthy, slightly tar-like base note that most Western noses encounter rarely, which makes it one of the fragrance's most distinctive and quietly memorable qualities. It's not performing for the room. It's working close to the skin, and anyone who gets close enough will notice.
The evolution
The opening salvo arrives quickly. Saffron appears alongside frankincense, with nutmeg threading through as heat rather than spice. Geranium appears briefly, green and bright, before the resinous weight of the composition settles. The heart develops next, with rose water softened by amber and myrrh adding a sticky, balsamic depth that pulls the composition toward the skin. The transition to the base is unhurried. Leather reveals itself underneath everything else, not announcing itself but forming a foundation. Labdanum and patchouli hold the drydown steady while vanilla and sandalwood add a warmth that keeps the whole thing from going austere.
Cultural impact
No 10 holds a distinctive position within Eutopie's numbered series. The combination of cypriol oil, myrrh, and leather creates a composition that rewards close attention. Its depth and restraint set it apart from fragrances that rely on immediate impact, appealing instead to those who appreciate a scent that reveals itself gradually. The structure of the fragrance suggests confidence rather than the need to announce itself.
