The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Eros comes from perfumer Hernán Figoli with a clear, almost stubborn point of view: build a straightforward masculine aromatic using five ingredients and refuse to crowd them. Sage, vetiver, lavender, cedar, and sandalwood, the bones of a classic fougère stripped to what actually matters. No flashy top notes engineered to sell bottles in the first five minutes. No trendy additions chasing the next wave. Just an honest composition that knows exactly what it is and how long it plans to stick around. The structure is confident, the ingredient list is short, and nothing in the formula tries to be something it isn't. Figoli's approach rewards attention: each note has room to breathe, to develop, to show its character without getting buried under something louder. The name says it plainly.
Five notes. That's the entire pyramid. In a landscape where complexity often gets mistaken for quality, that's a quiet act of restraint. Figoli builds the composition around sage, vetiver, and lavender, the same skeleton that anchors the fougère family, and lets the supporting woods do the rest of the work. The lavender contributes its familiar aromatic lift, bright and slightly floral at the edges, while sage adds a herbal, almost savory depth that gives the formula a grounded feel from the start.
The evolution
Lavender opens the composition, and it opens loud, the kind of aromatic presence that fills the air around the wearer without shouting. There's a soapy, almost clean-laundry edge to it, that familiar fougère lift that announces the genre before the rest of the notes have a chance to introduce themselves. Sage joins quickly, softening the lavender's sharper angles with something greener and more herbal, and for a while the composition reads as a textbook aromatic, clean, composed, and unmistakably traditional. As the scent develops, the lavender starts to step back and the heart notes take over. Vetiver arrives with its earthy, slightly smoky weight, grounding the herbal brightness with something denser and more rooted. The cedar underneath adds a dry, woody character that gives the formula a sense of structure, a backbone that holds everything else in place.
Cultural impact
Eros is a classically structured masculine fougère built on five ingredients, and that simplicity is its defining feature. The formula doesn't try to be everything at once. It works within the fougère tradition, letting sage, vetiver, and lavender carry the aromatic character while cedar and sandalwood provide the woody base that gives the composition its staying power. The restraint in the ingredient list translates directly into how the scent wears. There's nothing decorative here, no ornamental notes added for novelty, no top-heavy opening designed to impress in the first minute and fade into nothing.
