Why it exists.
The beginning
Emanuel Ungaro introduced Fresh for Her in 2020, a release that signalled a shift in the house's direction. Perfumer Pierre-Constantin Guéros built the composition around nashi pear as the anchor of the fragrance. The nashi pear does most of the work in the opening, giving the scent its watery, almost translucent fruit character. Guéros treats the pear the way a couturier treats fabric, as the starting point for everything else. The composition stays restrained from there, building outward rather than piling on. Fresh wears like a light cotton dress in scent form, present but never insistent. It moves through its notes without drama, and that restraint feels intentional rather than accidental.
The nashi pear deserves a second mention because it does the heavy lifting here. Nashi reads as crisper, more watery, less candied than other fruits often used in similar roles. Guéros pairs it with bergamot and lemon for a citrus spine that keeps the sweetness from sliding into syrup. The citrus pulls double duty, sharpening the pear's softness while adding a brief sparkle that fades within minutes. The floral heart stays deliberately uncomplicated. Jasmine brings warmth, lily of the valley provides green lift, and peony adds soft volume.
The evolution
The first spray is almost carbonated. Bergamot and lemon hit first, sharp enough to make your eyes blink, then the nashi pear rounds it out within sixty seconds. The fruit fades faster than you expect, leaving jasmine and peony in a wash that stays close to the skin. Lily of the valley adds a green ribbon underneath, the kind of coolness that reads as clean laundry rather than a greenhouse. After about ninety minutes the florals start to thin and patchouli surfaces, soft and creamy rather than earthy. Sandalwood arrives next, warm but pale, and tonka bean closes the arc with a faint almond sweetness that lingers on fabric the next morning. The fragrance moves through its stages quietly, each note stepping forward and then receding. On a sweater or scarf, you will catch it the next day, faded to a warm woody whisper that needs you to lean in to find it.
