The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Nakinn comes from Dotti's Icelandic collection, a line built around the light, air, and mineral clarity of the North. The collection draws on the stark beauty of northern landscapes, where crisp air and sparse vegetation create a particular kind of sensory clarity. Rodrigo Lombardi and Ricardo Gomes worked in tandem on this one, blending their approaches to green and aromatic materials into something that feels both medicinal and approachable. The result is a fragrance that captures that sharp, immediate sensation of cold air on skin, the kind that makes you stop and notice your surroundings. There is an initial crispness that gives way to something cleaner and more resolved, a progression that feels intentional rather than accidental.
The structure is unusual for a citrus fragrance. Where most open bright and stay bright, Nakinn uses camphorated eucalyptus and mint as a bridge into its heart. This initial burst of mentholated coolness serves as a transition point, moving the wearer from the bright citrus opening toward the more complex heart notes beneath. The heart delivers rhubarb and blueberry, a tart-fruity duo that cuts through the coolness and adds a juicy, slightly sharp quality that keeps the composition from reading as masculine or harsh.
The evolution
The opening hits fast and cool, eucalyptus first, then mint arriving to soften it. Bergamot and orange lift the citrus, but they are not the loudest voices in the room. The Tarragon brings an herbaceous quality that feels almost savory. As the top notes begin to shift, the rhubarb takes prominence, presenting itself as tart, green, slightly sour in a way that keeps the composition honest and prevents it from becoming overly sweet. Blueberry arrives quietly, more a suggestion of fruit than a bold sweetness, blending with the rhubarb to create a tart-fruity interplay that defines the heart. The coriander and green tea lend a quiet, slightly bitter dimension beneath the fruity notes, adding depth that rewards patience. As the heart begins to transition, the base notes emerge gradually. Oakmoss settles in first, giving a mossy, almost forest-floor quality.
Cultural impact
The camphorated opening is Nakinn's defining characteristic: bracing, almost medicinal, designed to be noticed rather than hidden. This initial burst of cool, sharp sensation serves as the fragrance's signature, setting it apart from more conventional citrus and green fragrances. The composition leans into this quality rather than softening it, making the opening an intentional statement about what the fragrance values. The heart brings tart-fruity notes that cut through the coolness, adding dimension and preventing the fragrance from reading as harsh or one-dimensional.
