What makes this work is the structural discipline. Most houses, at parfum concentration, add more material, another heart note, a richer base, something to justify the price and the prestige. CoSTUME NATIONAL does not follow that path. The pyramid stays lean: bergamot, green tea, jasmine, hibiscus, myrrh. What changes is density. At higher concentration, each note settles closer to the skin and lasts longer. The bergamot opens cool and bright, but the green tea is woven into the composition rather than announced, its mineral character tempering the citrus from the first moments.

The evolution

The opening arrives crisp and cool. Bergamot bright against green tea's mineral, slightly herbal character, the combination has a cleanliness that reads almost clinical at first, like cold stone or damp linen. Jasmine and hibiscus take over the heart. The jasmine's warmth blooms into the space the citrus is vacating, while hibiscus adds a slightly tart, almost waxy floral body that thickens the composition. Amber moves in quietly, adding weight and sweetness without announcing itself. By the time the heart settles, the fragrance has transformed from cool and green to warm and resinous. Myrrh does the drydown. Smoky, slightly animalic, resinous sweetness that lingers close to the skin. The animalic note that the accords flag is present here, not aggressive, not challenging, but there, a warmth that reads as skin rather than bottle. The sillage drops to intimate, close-to-skin presence.
