The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Sovaz, meaning “wild” in Seychellois Creole, was launched in 2025 by Coco de Mer Cosmetics. Its name connects the fragrance directly to the untamed character of the Seychelles archipelago. The listed composition features grapefruit, lemon, mint, and pink pepper, followed by geranium, ginger, jasmine, lavender, and nutmeg. Cedarwood, frankincense, patchouli, sandalwood, and vetiver complete the composition. No perfumer is credited in the available information.
The composition is built around a clear sequence of listed fragrance notes. Grapefruit, lemon, mint, and pink pepper define the opening, giving it a crisp and sparkling character. Geranium and lavender contribute floral and herbal facets, while ginger and nutmeg introduce a restrained spice. Patchouli, vetiver, cedarwood, and sandalwood shape the lower portion of the fragrance with woody, earthy, and aromatic notes. Frankincense adds another resinous dimension to the overall composition.
The evolution
Sovaz opens with grapefruit and lemon, supported by mint and pink pepper. Together, they create a brisk, sparkling introduction with a cool edge and a rosy accent. The listed heart notes of geranium, jasmine, lavender, ginger, and nutmeg bring floral, herbal, and gently spiced character as the composition develops. The drydown is shaped by cedarwood, sandalwood, patchouli, vetiver, and frankincense. Together, the woody notes lend a polished structure, patchouli and vetiver contribute earthy depth, and frankincense adds a resinous dimension. As the fragrance wears, the opening gives way to a more textured combination of floral, herbal, spicy, woody, and earthy notes. The result is a fresh aromatic composition that becomes progressively richer without losing the brightness established at first.
Cultural impact
Sovaz extends Coco de Mer’s Seychelles-rooted identity through a name understood in Seychellois Creole as “wild.” The name gives the fragrance a cultural register shaped by the language and landscape of the archipelago, moving beyond imagery of sun and surf. Launched in 2025, it adds another name to Coco de Mer’s expanding collection while presenting a composition built around listed notes of citrus, mint, pink pepper, flowers, spices, woods, earth, and resin. Its cultural connection lies in the meaning of its name and the character it seeks to evoke.
