The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Dubai Amber joined Bond No. 9's Dubai collection, a scent that follows the house's first olfactory love letter to the Gulf city. The house names scents after places, after feelings, after neighborhoods that matter. Dubai Amber belongs to that tradition. Spice and rose do the heavy lifting here, creating a composition that feels structured and unmistakably Bond No. 9. It brings a different kind of complexity to the collection, one that moves beyond straightforward sweetness into something more layered and considered.
Dubai Amber anchors itself with Bulgarian rose rather than oud or incense. This sets it apart from regional conventions. Bulgarian rose brings a distinctive warmth to the composition, and cedar and dry amber allow that warmth to coexist without crowding the blend. Gurjan balsam and guaiac wood add smoky, resinous depth. Saffron gives the composition a dry quality, shaping its overall character. The overall impression is of a rose fragrance that doesn't announce itself. The warmth is present throughout, but it develops gradually rather than presenting itself all at once.
The evolution
The opening hits bright, bergamot and pink pepper sparkling against saffron's dry, leathery warmth. Raspberry keeps it soft in the initial stages. Then the transition begins: Bulgarian rose steps forward, jasmine follows, and the woody heart notes arrive to ground everything. The gurjan balsam and guaiac wood provide the foundation as the composition moves through its phases. As time passes, amber and vanilla take over, cedar provides the architecture, and the fragrance settles into something warm, powdery, and close to the skin. The drydown doesn't announce itself. It arrives, settles, and stays, fading to skin-close warmth that lingers.
Cultural impact
Dubai Amber sits in the Bond No. 9 Dubai collection alongside Dubai Gold, offering a warm spice, rose, and amber composition. The balance of these elements creates something distinct from typical Gulf-inspired fragrances, particularly those built around oud. It serves as an alternative for those drawn to regional character presented through a different lens.
