Why it exists.
The beginning
Oajan was created by the house of Parfums de Marly to capture an indulgent, 18th-century French court sensibility, where excess was a virtue and scent was a statement. The perfumer's brief was to build around richness without restraint, creating a fragrance that shares its warmth openly. The composition begins with ingredients that refuse to be ignored, placing honey and cinnamon at the center of the opening act.
Each note in Oajan was selected to contribute to a specific effect: the opening demands attention, the heart commands presence, and the drydown rewards patience. The osmanthus in the top notes was chosen specifically to soften cinnamon's harsh edges while adding a floral dimension that pairs with honey's sweetness. The artemisia in the heart prevents the amber materials from becoming too heavy, creating balance. Tonka and vanilla work tog ether in the base to extend sweetness without redundancy, with patchouli providing necessary earthiness.
The evolution
The scent journey begins with a sharp, confident burst of cinnamon that immediately draws attention, softened within moments by the golden warmth of honey. Osmanthus adds a delicate floral nuance that prevents the opening from becoming one-dimensional. As time passes, benzoin and labdanum emerge to create a warm, resinous amber heart, while ambergris introduces an animalic depth and artemisia grounds the composition with herbal bitterness. Finally, vanilla and tonka bean take over, wrapped in clean musk and earthy patchouli for a finish that feels Intimate and lasting.
