The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Lita exists because two musicians asked a question most artists are too afraid to voice: what if we made something only we could make? Luke Pritchard, lead singer of The Kooks, and singer-songwriter Ellie Rose had just formed their duo when they approached Antonio Gardoni at Bogue Profumo. The brief was simple: capture the mood of their upcoming album. Gardoni agreed to the project. A dark, smoky, resinous composition emerged from that collaboration. The fragrance opens with six distinct top notes that demand attention, creating a bold introduction that sets the tone for everything that follows. Heart notes of ylang-ylang and gardenia weave through the composition, creamy florals that hold their ground against the darker elements arriving soon.
Six top notes. Five heart notes. Six base notes. Most perfumers would trim this pyramid until it breathes. Gardoni works differently. The opening alone, coriander, sandalwood, ylang-ylang, bergamot, gardenia, grapefruit, presents a full orchestra before the first act settles. Smoke doesn't arrive quietly in this composition. It doesn't ask permission. Ylang-ylang and gardenia push through it, creamy florals that refuse to be buried by tobacco and patchouli.
The evolution
The opening announces itself immediately, coriander's spice cutting through citrus brightness, gardenia doing exactly what gardenia does when it wants attention. Over time, the florals soften as tobacco takes the floor. By the mid drydown, patchouli and frankincense have merged into something resinous and heavy. Then the turn arrives: vanilla and tonka bean emerge, pulling the smoke into warmth rather than sharpness. On fabric, this outlasts the wearer's memory of applying it. The development unfolds in waves, each stage bringing new relationships between notes, none of them fighting for dominance but rather creating a conversation that spans hours. The final hours bring the sweetest moments, as the vanilla and tonka bean fully emerge to temper the earlier intensity into something softer and more intimate.
Cultural impact
LiTA, born from a musical collaboration, occupies space alongside fragrances like Zoologist's Tyrannosaurus Rex and A City on Fire by Imaginary Authors. These compositions share an approach that prioritizes boldness and originality over cautious formulation. The release found an audience among fragrance enthusiasts who value distinctiveness in their wardrobe. Bogue's work continues to attract wearers looking for something that stands apart from mainstream offerings, those who appreciate complexity and character in their scent choices. The fragrance remains relevant among collectors who seek compositions that challenge conventions.
