The beginning
In 2019, a boutique turned ten years old. The shop commissioned a fragrance from Antonio Gardoni to mark the occasion, a singular bottle for a singular moment. Fifty numbered pieces were produced. No reissues. The brief wasn't complicated: give us something that tastes like the decade, and the city where it happened. Gardoni delivered something leaner than expected, a departure from the density that defines the house, something stripped back and architectural in its restraint, yet warm and inviting in its final hours.
What makes Il Dieci X unusual is what it doesn't do. This fragrance strips back to something almost architectural in its restraint. The citrus and juniper open crisp and airy, with a clarity that feels both fresh and intentional. The beeswax doesn't smother, it warms the transition into sandalwood, which arrives on time and then simply stays, lingering with a quiet persistence. Fifty bottles, no second chance. The evolution
The opening hits cool and bright, citrus and juniper berries sharp as morning, pine and cypress adding an almost astringent freshness. It reads like silver light through young branches. Then the beeswax creeps in, turning the composition waxy and sweet, and the fennel adds a quiet aromatic depth that softens the edges. The citrus never fully disappears, it retreats into the background, a memory of sharpness beneath the warmth. The sandalwood arrives and doesn't leave. Creamy, slightly powdery, it carries the drydown for hours. On fabric, the benzoin adds a faint balsamic sweetness. On skin, it settles close and stays. In the later hours, trace elements remain, an echo of beeswax and wood that wasn't there at the start.
Cultural impact
Il Dieci X occupies a rare position: a fragrance released in a run so limited it barely registers in the broader market. For collectors, the appeal is obvious: fifty pieces, one chance, the Bogue signature stripped to its essentials.
