The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
In 2019, Antonio Gardoni designed the formula for 07738 with a constraint: no way back. Every decision was final. Once a material was chosen, the composition had to live with it. That philosophy of commitment became the fragrance itself, a piece built from decisions that couldn't be undone, resulting in something dense, layered, and structurally uncompromising. The numeric name reinforces the idea: a formula locked in, a concentration that leaves no room for second-guessing.
What makes the composition work is how the materials hold tension without resolution. The citrus top is bright and sharp, but the florals arrive quickly, jasmine, tuberose, rose arriving in quick succession, their sweetness amplified by ylang-ylang and softened only slightly by galbanum's green edge. The herbs (lavender, sage) keep the sweetness from becoming precious. Then the base arrives, and it's here that the real work happens, labdanum and frankincense creating a sticky, smoky warmth that doesn't fade but deepens. This is a fragrance that rewards patience. The density isn't accidental; it's the point.
The evolution
The opening arrives within seconds, a sharp citrus blast of blood mandarin and yuzu that cuts bright and green, demanding attention immediately. That opening doesn't linger. Within minutes, jasmine and rose push through, and the tuberose follows, thick and unapologetic in its creamy, slightly medicinal sweetness. The heart is the longest phase, holding for two to three hours of dense floral warmth that saturates rather than breathes. Then the turn begins. The florals don't fade so much as dissolve into something darker, labdanum and frankincense rising through the sweetness like smoke through warmth, adding resin and a faint medicinal bitterness. The drydown is where 07738 earns its reputation. Benzoin adds sticky warmth, cocoa brings a dark, bitter sweetness that keeps the sweetness honest, and cedar, sandalwood, vetiver settle underneath as a woody foundation that holds everything in place. Eight to ten hours later, on skin, the base is still warm and resinous, present, assertive, refusing to fully leave. On fabric, it lingers for days.
Cultural impact
07738 exists outside the conventional fragrance market entirely, 33 bottles produced, sold exclusively through LuckyScent, and now discontinued. Within the niche fragrance community, this kind of scarcity creates its own gravity. Bogue has built a reputation for compositions that challenge expectations, and 07738 is among the most demanding in their catalog, a fragrance that demands commitment from the wearer before the first spray.
