The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Epic arrived in 2013 as part of Blackglama's fragrance collection, from the American luxury house better known for mink and decades of celebrity campaigns. The brief was clear: translate the brand's legacy of glamour into something wearable, something with presence. Vincent Kuczinski took the creative lead and made Epic the aromatic-floral of the lineup, the one that opened with sage and didn't apologize for it. The fragrance was conceived to carry weight, to fill space, to make its presence known without shouting. It represents a particular kind of confidence, one that doesn't require validation from others to feel justified in existing.
The combination is unusual: aromatic sage paired with apricot, white florals layered over oakmoss and patchouli. Not quite green, not quite warm, sitting in that tension between wild and polished. The Brazilian patchouli used here comes from ethical sourcing through the Kushta initiative, reflecting a commitment to responsible ingredient selection. The fragrance unfolds gradually, revealing its complexity over time rather than announcing everything at once. The floral heart builds slowly, and the oakmoss provides a persistent foundation that gives the composition its structure.
The evolution
The opening arrives with sage, bright and almost medicinal, carrying the crisp quality of high desert after rain. It makes an immediate impression before softer notes begin to emerge. Apricot and bergamot arrive quietly beneath it, sweetening the air just enough to keep the green from biting. The transition to the heart brings osmanthus and peony, followed by lily of the valley and orchid, creating a white floral cluster that feels both feminine and grounded. Oakmoss anchors the base, supporting the florals, the apricot warmth, and the patchouli that adds earthy depth. The green note remains present throughout, and the oakmoss provides a lasting presence that defines the drydown.
Cultural impact
Epic occupies an interesting space: a luxury-brand fragrance that has earned quiet devotion among those who found it. The aromatic sage opening is distinctive, setting it apart from more conventional fragrance openings. The oakmoss drydown provides an earthy base that defines the fragrance's character as it evolves. The combination of green top notes and woody base creates something that rewards attention and repeated wearing.
