The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Jabal Al Toubad arrived in 2023 as part of Arabian Oud's Arabian Blend collection, a line built around the idea that traditional Middle Eastern perfumery doesn't need to live behind glass. The house has built a reputation distilling oud and constructing compositions that carry weight in both sacred and street-level contexts, earning recognition across the wider fragrance world. This particular release moves in a different direction, focusing on a layered blend of frankincense, Bulgarian rose, pink pepper, and bergamot at the top, before opening into a dense floral heart of ylang-ylang, orange blossom, tuberose, jasmine, and lily of the valley.
What makes this composition interesting isn't any single note, it's the collision. Frankincense and Bulgarian rose are both ancient ingredients with deep ceremonial weight, and the house pairs them with pink pepper and bergamot, introducing a sharper, more lifted opening that catches attention immediately. The heart piles white florals on top of each other, ylang-ylang, orange blossom, tuberose, jasmine, lily of the valley, until the bouquet loses any single identity and becomes a wall of scent.
The evolution
The first ten minutes belong to frankincense. It hits sharp, almost medicinal, before the bergamot rounds it off and the rose starts pushing through from underneath. Pink pepper is the spark, the thing that makes you check your wrist twice. Around the 30-minute mark, the white florals arrive. Not politely, either. Tuberose and jasmine carry most of the weight here, with ylang-ylang adding a creamy density and orange blossom keeping it from going too dark. This is the most lush phase, dense, slightly dizzying, the part where people lean in or step back. By hour two, the base takes over. Amber and sandalwood do the heavy lifting, while vanilla smooths the edges and patchouli adds a quiet earthiness underneath. The smoke from the opening doesn't disappear. It deepens, threads through the warmth, and stays present well past the six-hour mark. On fabric, the drydown lingers into the next day, warm, powdery, faintly sweet.
Cultural impact
Jabal Al Toubad is dense, layered, and unapologetically traditional in its construction, a composition that leans into the weight of its materials rather than chasing lightness. The frankincense and rose at the top carry centuries of ceremonial significance, while the wall of white florals in the heart, ylang-ylang, orange blossom, tuberose, jasmine, lily of the valley, gives the fragrance a lush, almost opulent body that fills a room without effort. The base of amber, vanilla, sandalwood, and patchouli anchors everything in warmth, extending the wear time and leaving a soft, resinous trail that lingers on skin and clothing for hours.
