Why it exists.
The beginning
The Great Beauty was created by David-Lev Jipa Slivinschi in collaboration with Romanian niche boutique Beautik, celebrating their 20th anniversary. Only 150 bottles were produced, making it a genuinely scarce release from the moment it entered circulation. As a collaboration piece, it carries the particular weight of a commemorative project: a fragrance built not for the broadest possible audience but for a specific moment in a specific boutique's history. The composition itself leans into warmth from the opening spritz, with saffron threading through caramelized sweetness and a resinous undercurrent that suggests something old and well-kept.
Where most compositions separate their woody elements from their sweet ones, The Great Beauty collapses the distance. Saffron and caramel open together, benzoin and honey enter hand in hand with Atlas cedar. The 'book accord' sits in the heart alongside tobacco and lily of the valley, suggesting pages and pollen sharing the same shelf. The drydown deepens rather than fades, with the cedar and tobacco gaining prominence as the caramel softens into something closer to dried fruit and old wood. Benzoin lingers at the base, lending a warm, almost vanillic edge that keeps the sweetness grounded.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes are all texture. Saffron lands dry and almost metallic, caramel spreading underneath like burnt sugar on a hot pan. Atlas cedar and balsam fir give the opening its architectural backbone, cool and green against the warmth. Iso E Super threads through, adding that velvety haze that makes the whole thing feel slightly out of focus. By the second hour, the honey and benzoin have fully arrived, and the fragrance shifts from sharp to golden. Tobacco and peony slip in, soft and floral, while vanilla rounds the edges. The book accord holds its ground through the middle, papery and resinous. From hour four onward, the drydown is pure patience. Wood lacquer and vanilla anchor everything to skin, the musk warm and close. By hour six, what's left is a quiet, lacquered wood sweetness, still detectable the next morning on fabric.
