The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Stratix was born from a trek through the rugged peaks of the Scottish Highlands, a place The World In Scents maps in scent. In 2018, perfumer Mark St. Marie translated the scent of mist-clad cliffs, pine-laden trails and the lingering scent of leather-bound boots into a bottle. The brief was to capture that raw, outdoor elegance, and the fragrance reflects that ambition directly. It is a bottle of landscape, a memory of cold air and warm wood.
The note structure is designed to mirror a day in the Highlands. The opening represents the first breath of cold air at the trailhead. The heart captures the warmth found in the middle of a forest walk, where leather boots and pine needles are part of the same experience. The drydown reflects the quiet of a bothy at dusk, where oud, cypriol and patchouli carry the memory of the day forward. Cedar and oud anchor the structure, pine and leather define its character, and bergamot and carnation add the unexpected brightness that keeps the fragrance from becoming purely rugged.
The evolution
The fragrance evolves in clear, deliberate stages. Bergamot and lemon verbena arrive first, crisp and green, before cedarwood establishes a dry, woody foundation. The heart then opens into a forest scene: pine tree and leather dominate, joined by oak and hay for a natural, tactile character. Amber adds warmth and carnation introduces a spiced floral nuance that deepens the middle phase. In the drydown, oud and cypriol take over, bringing a dark, smoky intensity that patchouli and oakmoss extend into a long, quiet finish.
Cultural impact
Since its 2018 debut, Stratix has sparked conversation among scent‑curious collectors for its unapologetically green‑leathery profile. The blend of fresh citrus and raw oud divides opinions, making it a go‑to for those who enjoy a fragrance that announces its character and refuses to fade into the background.
