The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The name itself is the brief. Neverending, a fragrance that doesn't simply fade but evolves, layer by layer, in conversation with skin. Douglas Morel built Neverending in 2021 as an oriental floral where spice and white florals share space with leather and vanilla, neither side winning outright. The intent was a composition that holds its shape across hours without becoming static. Pink grapefruit opens sharp and bright; cumin and nutmeg follow with warmth that makes the citrus feel electric rather than sweet. Tuberose and suede arrive together in the heart, jasmine softens rather than dominates. The drydown settles into black vanilla husk and cypriol oil, something resinous and grounded. Neverending asks what it means for a scent to last, and answers by refusing to resolve cleanly.
The note architecture rewards attention. Pink grapefruit at the top reads fresh and modern, with a clean citrus quality that keeps the spice from becoming heavy. But the cumin is the telling ingredient. Warm, slightly animalic, it anchors the composition in something more grounded than its citrus opening suggests. In the heart, suede does not behave like traditional leather, it is softer, worn-in, something you have lived with rather than put on. Tuberose and jasmine temper each other: the tuberose adds body, the jasmine adds air.
The evolution
The opening spark hits bright, pink grapefruit with a spice edge that keeps it from reading as simply fresh. The transition to the heart is gradual rather than sudden. Suede arrives quietly, softening the citrus. Tuberose follows, jasmine a step behind, and together they shift the composition from sharp to intimate. The florals settle in their own time, allowing the base materials to take their place. Black vanilla husk and cypriol oil form the backbone of the drydown, warm, resinous, something that stays close to skin rather than projecting outward. Guaiac wood adds woody depth; amber and musk give it presence that does not demand attention. The longevity is above average, with something clean and slightly sweet remaining the next morning, the vanilla husk doing quiet overtime.
Cultural impact
Neverending presents itself as spicy leather with a floral heart, grounded by vanilla and wood. It's substantial without being heavy, and the pink grapefruit keeps it from reading as purely evening wear. The composition bridges the gap between formal and casual, offering a presence that works across different occasions. Its ability to maintain weight without heaviness makes it versatile for those seeking something with substance but without intensity. The spice and leather stay modern rather than nostalgic, while the florals keep it from becoming too austere.
