The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mahsam Raza composed Passion Of Green Love in 2024, a woody aromatic that opens on bergamot and pink pepper before the composition settles into its deeper register. The structure moves deliberately: rose enters against a backdrop of cedarwood, sandalwood, and leather, then drops into oud, patchouli, musk, and vanilla as the hours pass. It's a fragrance that treats green as a botanical quality rather than a romantic gesture, and the title follows that reading. The opening brightness of bergamot carries that green character on first contact, lifting the composition before the woods take hold, while the pink pepper adds a faint piquancy that runs through the early stages and bridges into the warmer notes below.
The unusual move here is how the rose is handled. Rather than sitting isolated in a floral heart, it's bookended by citrus above and leather below, which forces it into a spicier, almost peppery register. The cedarwood and sandalwood do the structural work in the middle, giving the composition its woody spine before the oud and patchouli arrive to root everything in earth. The cedarwood reads dry and resin-warm, while the sandalwood adds a smoother, almost buttery quality beneath it; together they form the platform on which the leather rests.
The evolution
On skin, the first ten minutes belong to bergamot, sharp and clean, with pink pepper fizzing underneath like soda water going flat. Rose shows up early but stays compressed, more a stain than a bloom. By the thirty-minute mark the citrus has thinned and the middle takes over: cedarwood and sandalwood settle into a warm woodiness, and leather arrives in a dry form. The rose continues quietly through this phase, dusted with pepper. After two to three hours the composition drops into its base. Oud and patchouli do the heavy lifting, earthy and a little bitter, while musk and vanilla smooth the edges into something softer and more skin-like. The transition between phases feels deliberate rather than abrupt, with each set of notes yielding cleanly to the next.
Cultural impact
Passion Of Green Love sits within The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection, a line that houses the house's reworked compositions. The rose-oud-leather combination is a recognizable structure in modern perfumery, and this release offers an accessible interpretation of that template. For anyone curious about the green-woody register, it provides an entry point without the commitment of a boutique purchase. The composition leans into the warmer, more resinous side of the green spectrum, balancing the freshness of its opening with the depth of its base.
