The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Tesori d'Oriente, an Italian house operating under the Sodalis Group, draws its name from the concept of Eastern treasures, each fragrance referencing a specific tradition or wellness ritual. Ikigai, released in 2025, takes its name from the Japanese philosophy of purpose: the reason to get up in the morning. The fragrance anchors itself in cherry blossom, Japan's annual marker of renewal and quiet beauty, supported by peach and bergamot in the opening. Bitter orange and jasmine shape the heart, grounding the concept in both citrus tradition and floral mastery. The perfumer crafts a scent that feels intentional, each layer contributing to a narrative of daily meaning.
The philosophy of ikigai centers on finding purpose in everyday life, and the fragrance reflects this through its structured evolution. Cherry blossom represents renewal, the seasonal moment when Japan pauses to appreciate transient beauty. Peach and bergamot ground the opening in accessible freshness. The heart, built around bitter orange and jasmine, introduces complexity that rewards attention. The base, with vanilla and guaiac wood, offers warmth and depth that mirrors the lasting nature of purpose. Worn daily, the fragrance becomes a ritual, a small act of intention that reflects the philosophy it draws from.
The evolution
Cherry blossom and bergamot arrive first, the citrus providing a sharp contrast to the delicate floral sweetness of the petals. Peach adds texture, giving the opening a fleshy warmth that feels immediate and inviting. As the fragrance moves into its heart, bitter orange introduces a green, slightly tart counterpoint that keeps the sweetness honest. Jasmine and lily of the valley deepen the floral character, while rose contributes a soft, romantic warmth that bridges the opening and the base. The drydown brings vanilla and amber forward, creating a warm, creamy foundation. Guaiac wood and patchouli introduce smoky and earthy dimensions that prevent the base from becoming purely sweet, giving Ikigai a finish that feels purposeful and grounded.
Cultural impact
Cherry blossom carries cultural weight in Japanese tradition: transience, renewal, the beauty of the temporary. Ikigai translates this into scent, using cherry blossom as its anchor note, that subtle almond-cherry nuance that immediately signals its reference without being literal. The sweet, creamy base broadens the appeal. It works as an entry point for someone new to fragrance, gentle enough to feel approachable, and a daily wear for someone who wants something soft rather than bold. The blend of peach warmth, white florals, and vanilla-amber base creates something that feels accessible without being thin.
