The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Maysoon was designed within Swiss Arabian's tradition of blending Arabian warmth with accessible Western wearability. The name itself carries floral connotations in Arabic, and the composition reflects that, a yellow floral heart surrounded by bright citrus and a warm coconut-musk base. Swiss Arabian's long-standing partnership with Givaudan ensures access to high-quality raw materials, and Maysoon is a product of that technical precision applied to a character that's unmistakably warm. The perfumer's intent reads clearly: a tropical floral that doesn't retreat into sweetness for the sake of safety.
The ylang-ylang-coconut pairing is what separates Maysoon from the standard rose-citrus crowd. Ylang-ylang is notoriously divisive, heady, almost narcotic, with a banana-blossom sweetness that can tip into cloying if not anchored properly. Here, it's held in place by the Tonkin musk, which adds a quiet animalic depth that keeps the tropical notes from becoming abstract. The coconut reinforces the edible quality without leaning into sunscreen territory. This is not a safe composition. It's a confident one, and that distinction matters.
The evolution
The opening arrives bright and citrus-forward, with Calabrian bergamot and mandarin orange creating an immediate sparkle. The rose underneath adds a red, almost juicy depth, it's not a shy floral opening. For the first twenty to thirty minutes, this is clean and refreshing, the kind of citrus that reads as optimistic. Then the ylang-ylang moves in. Not dramatically, it builds, growing larger and more tropical as the citrus begins to thin. The coconut starts to surface around the one-hour mark, adding a creamy sweetness that shifts the entire register. By hour two, the opening notes have fully receded and the heart takes command: warm, lush, saturated. The drydown belongs to the coconut and Tonkin musk. These two notes interweave into a warm, powdery base that clings close to the skin, not projecting outward but present, intimate, lasting. On fabric, Maysoon can hold for hours after the skin has moved on. The floral heart doesn't disappear, it breathes underneath, a faint echo of the opening rose and the tropical ylang-ylang.
Cultural impact
Maysoon occupies a specific space in the Swiss Arabian lineup, a warm oriental floral that performs far above its accessible price point. Community reviews consistently flag longevity as exceptional, with wearers describing it as a fragrance that outlasts expectations built from similar-priced competitors. The ylang-ylang and coconut combination is distinctive enough to earn a dedicated following among those who prioritize tropical warmth in their floral wardrobe.
