The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Intense Pride arrived in 2020 as part of Swiss Arabian's Wild Collection, a men's fragrance that leans hard into the chypre tradition. The fruit leads, the oakmoss anchors, and the patchouli earns its keep in the middle. The chypre structure borrows from decades of masculine perfumery without hiding where it came from. Pineapple and blackcurrant open with a juiciness that reads almost syrupy at first spritz, brightened by bergamot and a sharper note of apple that keeps the sweetness from going flat. At the heart, patchouli acts as a structural pillar, giving the fruit something earthy and slightly bitter to sit on. Rose and jasmine edge in quietly, just enough to keep the composition from reading entirely one-note.
The sequencing is what makes it work. Pineapple and blackcurrant arrive first, bright and present, a fruit accord that announces itself rather than whispers. Then patchouli steps in at the heart, not as a whisper but as a structural pillar, giving the fruit something earthy to rest on. The chypre frame, oakmoss layered over a warm base of ambergris and vanilla, keeps the whole composition from collapsing into simple sweetness. The drydown pulls a thin thread of smoke through the residual sweetness, and that thread is what makes it memorable instead of generic.
The evolution
The first minutes belong to pineapple and blackcurrant, loud and almost syrupy, backed by bergamot and apple for brightness. The fruit doesn't vanish, it thickens. As patchouli rises into the heart, the sweetness gets darker, earthier, grounded by rose and jasmine that show up just enough to keep the composition from reading entirely masculine. The oakmoss eventually reveals the fragrance's real personality. The fruity opening recedes into something smoky, green, and slightly bitter, like fruit left too long on a wooden table. The base settles into ambergris and vanilla, but the oakmoss never fully surrenders. The patchouli carries through from the heart into the base, holding the moss and the fruit in the same sentence, refusing to let either one win completely.
Cultural impact
Intense Pride earns frequent comparison to Aventus in online fragrance communities, mostly for its pineapple-forward opening and the way the fruit sits over a smoky chypre base. That comparison sets expectations some wearers find met and others find overstated, but it places the fragrance squarely in the conversation about accessible fruity-chypre compositions. The pineapple and blackcurrant top gets most of the attention, yet the structure underneath, the patchouli heart, the oakmoss-led chypre frame, the ambergris and vanilla base, is what gives it staying power in those discussions.
