The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Kubera, the guardian of wealth in Hindu and Buddhist cosmology. Keeper of the northern direction. Protector of treasure, both worldly and celestial. Prin Lomros built Kubera Raja around that concept: abundance made olfactory. The tension between golden light and deep resin. Between the radiant and the occult. Between prosperity as radiance and prosperity as power. The name doesn't ask permission. Neither does the fragrance.
What makes Kubera Raja unusual is the celery seed and cumin sitting beside the ylang-ylang and osmanthus. These are not friendly choices, celery seed carries an earthy, slightly bitter quality that most perfumers avoid. Cumin leans feral. Yet here they sit in a composition anchored by white florals, adding a savory counterpoint that prevents the tuberose and jasmine from sliding into pure sweetness. It's the same logic behind salt in caramel: the depth only reads because something fights against it.
The evolution
Tangerine and orange blossom absolute arrive first, bright, almost aggressive in their citrus clarity. The tea appears as a green whisper beneath, tempering the sweetness. Thirty minutes in, the florals take over fully. Tuberose, jasmine, champaca, osmanthus, a wall of white blooms that doesn't apologize for its density. The clove and cumin appear as warmth, not sharpness, threading through the flowers. Then the base arrives: incense smoke curling through Thai oud's darkness, civet's animalic presence, myrrh's balsamic weight. The celery seed lingers longest, an earthy, strange anchor that makes this fragrance impossible to forget. What stays: smoke and something alive.
Cultural impact
Kubera Raja channels Thailand's rich heritage of sacred fragrance traditions. The name honors Kubera, the Hindu god of wealth, reflecting Bangkok's historic role as a center for aromatic commerce along ancient trade routes. SIAM 1928, founded in 2019, draws on this legacy by incorporating Thai oud, local incense resins, and civet sourced through traditional methods. The 2025 release represents a growing movement of Thai niche perfumery gaining international recognition, positioning Southeast Asian ingredients at the forefront of contemporary luxury fragrance rather than as exotic supporting notes.
