The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Apex arrived in 2022 as the olfactory equivalent of reaching the top and refusing to come down. The name itself is a declaration: this is the highest point, the thing others are measured against. Working from his Mayfair atelier, Dove created a fragrance that refuses compromise, fresh in the opening, dense in the base, present for hours without apology. What does a truly great fragrance smell like when you remove every limitation? That's what this scent attempts to answer.
The Chypre structure is doing heavy lifting here. Dove reimagines it with a citrus blast that hits like cold air at altitude, that moment when everything sharpens. The addition of pineapple in the heart adds a warmth that most Chypres lack, while the base, eighteen materials deep, gives Apex its exceptional longevity. This is not a fragrance that announces and retreats. It builds.
The evolution
The opening hits fast: bergamot, mandarin, lemon, a three-pronged citrus burst that transitions before the heart fully emerges. Pineapple arrives with jasmine, sweetening the deal without becoming obvious. The real story is in the base, where cypress and oakmoss take over, followed by leather, tobacco, and rum settling into the skin. By the later hours, you're left with amber, sandalwood, and musk, close, warm, still distinctly present. On clothing, it lingers.
Cultural impact
Apex sits in a specific corner: the assertive, woody-fresh fragrance for someone who wants presence without sweetness. It skews unisex despite the brand's traditional positioning, the citrus and pineapple appeal broadly. Within the Roja Dove range, this stands out as a fragrance for discovery, not assumption.
