Why it exists.
The beginning
Charna Ethier built Magnolia Mist around the saucer magnolia trees that erupt across New England each April. Released in 2023, the perfume started as Ethier's attempt to bottle a specific moment: the hour after an April shower, when the blossoms are so saturated they look like they might slip off the branch. The scent profile reflects creamy fruity floral notes kissed with lemon, capturing that unmistakable New England magnolia character in full bloom. Saucer magnolias carry their own distinct presence, opening in those enormous pink-cupped flowers that define the spring landscape here. Magnolia Mist is Ethier's translation of that overwhelming floral moment, built entirely from botanical materials.
Ethier built the composition around the New England saucer magnolia's distinct profile: a cleaner, fruitier, more aqueous floral with a Meyer lemon sparkle that stands apart from typical magnolia interpretations. Pairing that with pink champaca keeps the whole thing from collapsing into standard white-floral territory, the two flowers working together to create layered depth that neither could achieve alone. The evolution
The first 15 minutes are deceptive: bright Meyer lemon and ambrette seed cut through the air, almost cologne-like, sharp and clean. Then the florals arrive, and they arrive in force. Saucer magnolia and pink champaca open the heart, followed by jasmine, mimosa, and tuberose that build a dense, creamy white-floral wall. The rain accord weaves through all of it, a persistent cool wetness that keeps the florals from feeling baked or sun-warmed. The jasmine adds a dewy indolic sweetness that amplifies the lushness, while mimosa brings a powdery, almost honeyed softness that lightens the tuberose's heavier narcotic quality.
