The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Hellenist, founded in 2024 by Jean-David Jacoby, draws its creative direction from the myths, legends, and landscapes of ancient Greece. Each fragrance in the Mythologie collection references a Greek deity or archetypal story, and Les Bras de Morphée takes its name from the arms of Morpheus, the god of dreams, who made his home in the caves of Lemnos according to legend. The fragrance translates that liminal space, the moment between waking and sleep, into something you can wear on your skin.
The cool, earthy character of vetiver anchors the warm tonka and creamy Orris root, their interplay mirroring the liminal space between consciousness and sleep that Morpheus inhabits. Hazelnut wood bridges the gap between comfort and ambiguity with its subtle bitter edge. This balance between sweet and dry, soft and grounded, is what makes the fragrance feel like that suspended moment just before dreams take hold.
The evolution
Suzy Le Helley built the fragrance as a balance between the comforting and the delicate. Bright heliotrope, peach, and violet leaf form the luminous opening, an immediate softness that feels like a dream taking shape. The heart shifts to a powdery warmth as Orris root and violet take hold, but hazelnut wood's woody depth prevents the composition from becoming merely sweet. The base of tonka, vanilla, cashmeran, and vetiver grounds everything in a long, warm drydown that feels like a half-remembered dream, the scent lingering close to the skin as consciousness softens into sleep.
Cultural impact
Since its 2024 debut, Les Bras de Morphée has found an audience among those seeking a softer, more intimate take on the powdery-iris genre. Community feedback consistently describes it as the fragrance of someone who doesn't need to announce themselves, confident without projection, warm without weight. The hazelnut note has become a talking point: some find it addictive, others wish for more prominence. The overall reception positions it as a comfortable everyday choice, particularly suited to cooler seasons and close quarters.
