The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Tuberose & Tobacco arrived in 2025 as part of Proad's Classic Collection, composed by perfumer Christian Carbonnel (known professionally as Chris Maurice). Christian Carbonnel brings a working knowledge of how white florals behave in composition, and Tuberose & Tobacco puts that knowledge to the test. The concept strips away pretense and lets two heavyweights meet on equal footing: the indolic swagger of tuberose, and the cured-leaf depth of tobacco. Orange brightens the entry point with a lift of citrus that keeps the opening from collapsing under its own weight before the florals take over. Just a direct confrontation between petals and smoke, with a flash of sunlit fruit to set the stage.
The florals form a dense heart. Tuberose brings that almost carnal white floral presence, full-bodied and unmistakable, while ylang-ylang and rose amplify the lushness rather than offsetting it. Orange and peach offer just enough sunlit sweetness at the top to suggest warmth without crossing into gourmand territory. The base is anchored by tobacco, vanilla, almond, sandalwood, and musk, creating a drydown that reads more like polished wood and cured leaf than anything resembling ash or smoke.
The evolution
The opening moves fast. Orange and peach arrive bright but brief, a flash of citrus and ripe fruit that gives way quickly as the florals take hold. Tuberose doesn't creep in, it arrives. Full volume. That creamy, slightly indolic white floral character, amplified by ylang-ylang's banana-sweet undertones and rose's soft warmth. For a substantial stretch, the heart dominates, lush and dense, with a powdery sweetness that sits close to the skin without disappearing. Eventually, the base begins to surface. Tobacco arrives warm, more like pipe tobacco than cigarette ash, paired with vanilla and that marzipan almond note. Sandalwood and musk ground everything into something woody-creamy and soft. The drydown settles into a quiet tobacco-vanilla warmth that's more suggestion than statement, a skin scent that rewards close proximity over projection.
Cultural impact
This is a fragrance for someone who wants florals without the daintiness. Tuberose & Tobacco brings together the indolic intensity of tuberose with the warm, resinous pull of tobacco, and it doesn't apologize for either. The composition reads as confident and unapologetic in its density, the kind of scent that fills a room without shouting. It rewards wearers who like their florals with backbone and their orientals with a bit of rough edge.
