The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
& Other Stories launched Forest Haze in 2025 as part of a fragrance line that translates the brand's editorial mood-setting into scent. Forest Haze began as one specific image: a slow fog descending over a growing woodland, leaves and firs blurred into a single green breath. The composition draws on green, woody notes that move away from the familiar pine-and-cedar shorthand, building atmosphere through galbanum and turmeric instead. It joins a growing collection that includes scents like Perfect Pistachio, Pink Noon and Punk Bouquet, each carrying its own distinct mood and color. The result is a green scent that feels rooted in landscape without leaning on obvious forest codes, instead suggesting a place caught in soft focus, half-remembered and slightly out of reach.
What's interesting here is how the green, woody character gets built around turmeric and galbanum. Galbanum brings that raw, almost-bitter green sharpness that reads as genuinely outdoorsy without tipping into air-freshener territory. Turmeric and ginger in the top add a warmth that keeps the greenness from feeling cold. The combination creates something that suggests wet bark and turned earth, something mineral underneath the green. Moss and vetiver in the base ground the whole thing, pulling the airy green elements into something more tactile, more rooted.
The evolution
Forest Haze opens with a clean hit of turmeric and ginger, the kind of heat that feels bright and slightly peppery, warming the skin from the first spray. As the opening settles, galbanum arrives and shifts everything green, sharp and resinous, almost biting. It smells like stepping into a stand of firs at the exact moment the light goes diffuse. The galbanum dominates the early phase before fir balsam begins to round out its edges, softening the sharpness into something gentler and more meditative. The scent shifts from a forest to the memory of a forest, losing some of its raw edge but gaining depth. Vetiver and amber carry the drydown, earthy and warm, with moss underneath holding it together like damp soil. The projection sits above average, giving the composition room to register without overwhelming the space around you.
Cultural impact
Forest Haze shares space with fragrances like Byredo Black Saffron and Jo Malone Myrrh & Tonka for those drawn to resinous, nature-forward compositions. Worn by people who want a quiet, grounded scent with character, it appeals to anyone drawn to atmospheric, green-leaning profiles that feel more about texture and environment than sweetness. The fragrance fits naturally alongside other woody and resinous references, offering a green-forward perspective that doesn't lean on fruit or gourmand notes to carry it.
