The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Fleur de Mimosa takes its name from the delicate yellow-white blooms that line Mediterranean coastal promenades in early spring. & Other Stories tasked perfumer Jérôme Epinette with translating that specific image of breezy floral optimism into scent. Rather than attempting literal botanical accuracy, Epinette focused on the emotional register of the mimosa: its soft powdery aura, its sunlit disposition, its quiet warmth. The result is a fragrance that honors the flower's character while remaining firmly within the & Other Stories philosophy of accessible, wearble scent design.
The note selection reflects a specific philosophy about how florals should behave on skin. Mimosa alone can read as too diffuse or fleeting, so Epinette paired it with jasmine for richness and heliotrope for texture. The nutmeg in the heart serves a practical function too, acting as a natural fixative that slows the evaporation of lighter floral materials. Similarly, the almond in the opening previews the heliotrope that will emerge in the heart, creating continuity between stages. The amber and cedarwood in the drydown were chosen to honor the fragrance's Mediterranean inspiration, drawing on the warm wood and resin tones associated with that geography.
The evolution
The opening immediately signals intent through bergamot and blackcurrant, a combination that evokes the crisp coastal air meeting sun-warmed berry bushes. Almond softens the transition into the heart where mimosa arrives with jasmine and heliotrope, a trio that creates layers of powdery floralcy with heliotrope's characteristic almond-cherry note threading through. Nutmeg adds a quiet spice that keeps the heart from feeling purely decorative. As the drydown emerges, amber introduces warmth that feels organic rather than synthetic, cedarwood brings structure and dryness, and musk wraps the composition in a skin-close intimacy that remains present but never loud. The arc feels intentional from bright opening to warm close.
Cultural impact
Since its 2015 debut, Fleur de Mimosa has become a spring staple among the brand’s community, praised for its approachable yet sophisticated floral‑fruit blend. Wearers often cite its ability to transition from casual brunch to office without losing character, positioning it as a go‑to scent for those who appreciate a modern take on classic yellow‑floral perfume.
