The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
& Other Stories, founded in Sweden in 2013, has always approached fragrance as an extension of fashion editorial, and Sardonyx Fire fits that philosophy precisely. Perfumer Jérôme Epinette conceived Sardonyx Fire in Stockholm's cool spring of 2016, drawn to the sardonyx stone's layered duality. The name borrows from the gem known for its striking bands of dark and light, and Epinette translated that visual contrast into an olfactory composition where warm and cool notes oppose and complement each other. The sleek glass bottle reflects this duality from the outside while the juice within tells a sensory story of same-named stones and contrasting energies. & Other Stories chose EDT concentration for Sardonyx Fire, allowing the scent to breathe and diffuse in a way that matches the brand's light editorial touch.
Sardonyx Fire was built around contrast from the start, and each noted ingredient serves a deliberate purpose in that structure. Guava delivers the initial brightness, tropical and slightly tart, while freesia's gentle floral sweetness tempers any heaviness. The heart combines jasmine and rose for romantic warmth, and saffron introduces a precious spice that elevates the florals beyond expectations. In the drydown, vanilla and black amber create a warm, smoky sweetness that lingers while patchouli provides earthy grounding. Each ingredient was chosen to balance warm and cool qualities, reflecting the stone's dual nature.
The evolution
Sardonyx Fire begins as a burst of light and energy then gradually shifts into warmth and depth, much like the flame referenced in its name. The opening combines ripe guava's tropical brightness with freesia's delicate sweetness, creating an electrifying first impression that quickly establishes the scent's modern character. As the initial burst subsides, jasmine and rose emerge as the dominant florals, their warmth amplified by saffron's subtle spiced depth, an ingredient that adds luxury without heaviness. The drydown represents the stone's cool depth at last, as vanilla, black amber, and patchouli create a warm, resinous foundation that resounds for hours. The scent's evolution mirrors the sardonyx stone's layered bands moving from light to dark, from energy to depth, from day to night.
Cultural impact
Sardonyx Fire quickly became a winter favorite among the brand’s followers, praised for its warm spice and lingering amber trail. Wearers often cite its ability to stand out in cooler months without overwhelming, noting its similarity to the brand’s own Punk Bouquet while offering a softer, fruitier twist. Its strong sillage and eight‑hour longevity have earned it a reputation as a confident, everyday evening scent, frequently mentioned in style blogs as the go‑to fragrance for a cozy night out.
