The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Jérôme Epinette created Moon Fiction for & Other Stories in 2022 with a clear directive: translate a moonlit night into scent. Working from the Swedish brand's minimalist, editorial sensibility, he anchored the composition in bright, citrus-forward top notes that would evoke the sharp clarity of moonlight on a city balcony. The brief called for something cool and shimmering at first glance, then quietly Intimate as the night deepens, and the ginger-bergamot-lime opening accomplishes exactly that kind of crisp luminosity before softening into something warmer and more personal.
The note philosophy behind Moon Fiction prioritizes juxtaposition: the crisp against the soft, the bright against the close. Ginger, bergamot, and lime open the composition as a unit, establishing the sharp, luminous character that sets the rest of the fragrance in motion. Peach appears in the heart not to sweeten but to warm and humanize the transition, moving the wearer from the external clarity of moonlight into something more internal and Intimate. The drydown then grounds everything with Musk, Ambroxan, and Sandalwood, three materials that share a skin-like quality, keeping the fragrance near the body rather than projecting it outward.
The evolution
The fragrance evolves in three distinct waves that mirror the quiet drama of a night sky. Ginger arrives first and unapologetically sharp, followed immediately by bergamot and lime that amplify the cool, metallic quality of the opening. This citrus-ginger combination creates an aroma that feels like standing on a moonlit balcony with a cool breeze cutting through the air. The peach heart then emerges gradually, replacing the brightness with something rounder and more vulnerable. As the citrus fades, the peach softens the composition and signals a shift from observation to intimacy. The drydown then brings the three musk-ambroxan-sandalwood notes tog ether into a skin-close warmth that marks the final act of the fragrance, where it becomes less about what you smell and more about how you feel wearing it.
Cultural impact
Since its 2022 debut, Moon Fiction has become a go‑to summer staple for fans of crisp citrus with a soft peach heart, often mentioned alongside the brand’s other limited releases like Perfect Pistachio and Punk Bouquet. Its moderate sillage and approachable vibe have earned it a spot in casual‑day wardrobes across Europe, where wearers appreciate its fresh lift without overwhelming presence.
